November 2012

Public Affairs Counsel Rob Smith participated in a “Life Inside and Outside of the Fish Bowl – Experiences as a Legislative Staffer and as a Lobbyist” panel before the Legislative Process class at the University of South Carolina School of Law. The panel discussed roles of committee counsel and lawyer/lobbyist, policy development and bill drafting, ethical obligations and legislative advocacy, and several other related topics. The panel featured lawyer/lobbyists in private practice and counsel from the House Ways and Means Committee, House Labor, Commerce and Industry Committee and the House Judiciary Committee.

Smith, prior to joining MVA, served in several staff and counsel roles with the United States Senate and South Carolina House of Representatives including Speaker’s Counsel and Chief Counsel for the House Labor, Commerce and Industry Committee.
