On the Floor

General Assembly Returns

After a two week furlough, the Senate and the House of Representatives will reconvene on Tuesday, April 9 at noon.  The Senate Finance Committee will continue to take testimony and formulate the annual appropriations bill.  In addition, Senate Finance Health and Human Services Subcommittee will hear from Health and Human Services Director Tony Keck and a Medical Affairs Subcommittee will take up S. 568 regarding revisions to the Certificate of Need program. In the House, government restructuring, ethics reform and utility theft protection legislation are up for consideration on the floor and in committee

Why Sanford vs. Colbert Busch Could Be Competitive

Former Gov. Mark Sanford won a runoff election this week, securing the Republican nomination for South Carolina’s First Congressional District. He will face the Democratic nominee, Elizabeth Colbert Busch, in a May 7 general election.

The race for Congress is heating up. Thursday afternoon the Democratic candidate Elizabeth Colbert Busch stopped by the Harvest Health and Rehab Center on Johns Island to share her views with seniors.

From the time she was named winner of the Democratic primary for Senator Tim Scott's former congressional seat, Elizabeth Colbert Busch has hit the ground running. 

SC Treasurer, state retirement commission battle over $50M

The commission that manages the state’s $26 billion retirement fund voted to invest $50 million on Thursday, but state Treasurer Curtis Loftis is refusing to sign the check.
