2015 House Republican Leadership

NC House Republicans met Saturday, November 22, to vote on leadership positions for the 2015/2016 legislative term. The caucus nominated Representative Tim Moore (Cleveland) as their nominee for House speaker, from a field of six contenders, on the first ballot. Moore, 44, is a lawyer from Kings Mountain.

The House of Representatives will vote to confirm Moore as speaker when the legislature reconvenes in January for the 2015 long session. The contest is not likely to be competitive if Republicans vote together.

Republicans elected the following leaders during Saturday’s meeting:

  • Majority Leader: Rep. Mike Hager (Rutherford)
  • Speaker Pro Tem: Rep. Paul Stam (Wake)
  • Majority Whip: Rep. John Bell (Wayne)
  • Deputy Majority Leader: Rep. Marilyn Avila (Wake)
  • Majority Conference Chairman: Rep. Charles Jeter (Mecklenburg)
  • Joint Caucus Leader: Rep. Pat Hurley (Randolph)

2015 House Democratic Leadership

NC House Democrats saw a net gain of three seats this election cycle. The caucus met Friday, November 21, and nominated Representative Larry Hall (Durham) to his second term as minority leader.

The caucus will reconvene in December to strategize for the upcoming term.
