Charlotte could do more for startups

Heslin authors call to action editorial
Charlotte Business Journal
December 2014

Charlotte Member and Public Service Committee Chairman Brian Heslin authored an editorial that was published in the Charlotte Business Journal’s “Viewpoint” section on December 12.  The editorial, which can be seen here, serves as a call to action to the local business community, encouraging organizations to foster Charlotte’s entrepreneurial climate by supporting startup businesses in a variety of ways.

To ensure that innovative entrepreneurs grow and, most importantly, stay in Charlotte, it’s imperative for the business community to provide startups with access to capital, networks and information. Given the primary drivers of the local economy, Charlotte is an optimal environment to provide new business with these needs. With the help and support of our business community, quality startups can acquire funding through loans or more likely, creative investment, find and access the proper market, protect their ideas, build lucrative partnerships and cultivate a viable customer base.”

MVA has provided CLT Joules and Queen City Forward, both local business incubators, with pro bono legal services and other resources, including seminars, instruction and contacts, since 2012.
