10.2014

Charlotte Bankruptcy Member Zach Smith was invited to speak at the Campbell Law Review's 2014 Symposium “One City at a Time: The Role and Increasing Presence of Chapter 9 Municipal Bankruptcies.”  The event is being held on Friday, October 17, and will feature U.S. Chief Bankruptcy Judge Thomas B. Bennett as the keynote speaker.  Smith will participate on the “Interest Holders in Chapter 9” panel.

The Symposium will focus on the increasing occurrence of municipal bankruptcies across the country.  Specifically, it will explore conditions that give rise to the financial crises facing local governments, the current climate, and potential solutions.  The Symposium will bring together preeminent scholars, judges, legal practitioners, and local government officials, who will provide a platform for discussion on the outlook of financial conditions for localities, as well as the trend of Chapter 9 municipal bankruptcies.  The day-long complimentary event is worth 6.5 CLE hours and will include a light breakfast, lunch and a reception.
