Beverly Binner, an attorney in the Firm's Health Care group, recently authored an article discussing the proposed Health Care reform and the delivery of services.

"The debate over health-care reform has included discussion of alternative delivery systems, including accountable care organizations and medical homes. These delivery systems are designed to improve the quality of care and reduce its cost.

Relatively few of these alternative delivery systems have been implemented, so the extent of the risks and benefits for participating health-care providers is unclear. But the federal government has implemented a demonstration project for medical homes, and several pilot programs for ACOs and medical homes have been launched in the private sector. The health-care-reform bills proposed by Congress provide funding for demonstration projects for these systems.

These demonstration projects and pilot programs will provide evidence of the effectiveness and long-term feasibility of ACOs and medical homes. They also will provide insight regarding the scope of benefits and extent of any challenges for participating providers."
