Charlotte Intellectual Property member Henry Ward was quoted in Law360’s February 24 article entitled “Fair Use Likely to Shield Westlaw, LexisNexis in Copyright Suit.” The article addresses the issues raised by a proposed class action accusing legal research providers Westlaw and LexisNexis of infringing attorneys’ copyrights by selling access to legal filings.
“Copyright protects original works of authorship that are fixed in a tangible form, and a legal filing that includes an original analysis of the facts of a case should fit the bill,” Ward states.
