MVA & Citizen Schools Enable Students' First Courtroom Experience

Mock trial conducted as apprenticeship WOW! event
April 2013

Charlotte Financial Services Attorney Lauren Nelson and Litigation Attorney Daniel Gude taught a Citizen Schools mock trial apprenticeship during the spring semester at Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School.  The apprenticeship culminated in a mock trial WOW! event on April 18 at the Mecklenburg County Courthouse.  The trial gave students the opportunity to put their knowledge to good use, and to showcase everything they learned for friends, family and teachers.

"The students in the mock trial class showcased stellar advocacy.  Through the class, the students had many opportunities to practice public speaking skills, and they demonstrated these skills during the mock trial.  The students spoke with confidence, even though for many of them, it was their first time in the courthouse," Gude stated.

Moore & Van Allen hosted Citizen Schools' first mock trial in Charlotte in 2009.  More information on Citizen Schools North Carolina can be found here.
