Moore & Van Allen Recognized for “Frenzy” to End Hunger

Named Large Firm division winner of 2013 Legal Feeding Frenzy by Attorney General
April 2013

Moore & Van Allen's Charlotte and Research Triangle Park offices together raised 53,285 pounds of food during the 2013 North Carolina Legal Feeding Frenzy Challenge.  The proceeds, raised to benefit North Carolina’s Feeding America Food Banks, were enough to earn Moore & Van Allen the title of Large Firm division winner in this year’s competition.  Attorney General Roy Cooper recognized all 2013 winners during an awards ceremony hosted by the North Carolina Bar Association at the N.C. Bar Center on Wednesday, April 24.  Research Triangle Park Intellectual Property Member Tristan Fuierer accepted the award on the Firm’s behalf.

The 2013 Frenzy was conducted from March 18 – April 5, and brought in approximately 180,000 pounds of food— the equivalent of 150,000 meals — to be distributed statewide in the effort to eradicate hunger.  The coveted Attorney General’s Cup was presented to overall Frenzy champion Piedmont Natural Gas.  The complete list of winners in the additional categories of Sole Practitioner, Small Firm, Medium Firm and Law School were also recognized during the awards ceremony.

MVA Litigation Attorney Cabell Clay served as Co-Chair of the 2013 Legal Feeding Frenzy Committee.  “It was fantastic to see how the state’s legal community came together for the cause!  Hunger is more prevalent than many realize, so any opportunity to educate others on the cause while also helping to eradicate the issue, should be embraced,” Clay stated.  “I am excited about the impact of this year’s Feeding Frenzy, and look forward to seeing it grow each subsequent year.”

MVA initiated a similar effort within Mecklenburg County in 2012, under the name “Legal Food Fight.”  The drive brought in a total of $3,705 and more than 400 non-perishable food items in support of the Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina
