Moore & Van Allen Attorney is Recognized with Public Service Award

Alton (Larry) Gwaltney, III has received the Sally & Bill Van Allen Public Service Award for 2008.  The seventh annual awards ceremony was held at the Hilton Center City in Charlotte on June 17th.  

Mr. Gwaltney was recognized for his outstanding public service efforts over the past year. Those efforts include:  pro bono case work involving domestic violence, landlord-tenant issues and most recently, disability cases for the U.S. Army veterans returning from Iraq.  Mr. Gwaltney serves as the Mecklenburg County Bar Volunteer Lawyers Program Committee co-chair and volunteers at the Self Serve Center at the Mecklenburg County Courthouse where he assists low income individuals in the community who are preparing to go to court with family law issues.

Mr. Gwaltney focuses his practice on litigation at Moore & Van Allen.  He has experience as a civil litigator in complex ERISA and class action litigation and represents clients in other complex commercial civil litigation and arbitration.  Mr. Gwaltney served ten years of active duty as an officer in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps of the U.S. Army, prosecuting hundreds of criminal cases, including complex fraud and financial felonies. 

The Public Service Award bears the name of two revered members of the Moore & Van Allen family, Sally and Bill Van Allen, whose trail blazing commitment to, and efforts in behalf of, the good of this community continue to inspire us all.
