Charlotte Litigation Member and co-head of Moore & Van Allen’s White Collar, Regulatory Defense and Investigations practice John Fagg attended the 5th Annual Cambridge Forum on Financial Institutions Enforcement on May 17 and 18. The Forum is a by-invitation only meeting of a small group of white collar criminal defense and regulatory defense lawyers who advise financial institutions on enforcement matters.

Moore & Van Allen PLLC is pleased to announce that the following six attorneys have been elected as the firm’s newest members: Colby B. Jenkins, Lesley Attkisson Lewis, Michael (Mike) R. MVA Helps Client Launch Online Investment Platform

Charlotte Financial Regulatory Advice and Response Member Tom Pennington, and Corporate Counsel Colby Jenkins and Associate Michael Anderson were instrumental in advising their client, Artivest, on setting up a new online platform in conjunction with Pacific Investment Management Co. (Pimco). This innovative Artivest platform will allow investments of as little as $100G into Pimco alternative investment products that typically require a $5M minimum investment.

Lincoln and Bloomfield Featured on NCBA’s Litigation Section Blog
(October 2017)

Charlotte Litigation Counsel Matt Lincoln and Member Neil Bloomfield were recently featured on the NCBA’s Litigation Section Blog. Lincoln’s article titled, “Pro Se Responsive Pleading By Corporation/LLC Insufficient To Avoid Default,” discusses the North Carolina statute N.C.G.S. Section 84-5 which prohibits corporations and limited liability companies from practicing law in North Carolina. Bloomfield’s article analyzes Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. v. Haeger and provides a summary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision which clarified that even a district court’s exercise of broad discretion to impose a civil sanction for a litigant’s bad faith conduct has to be limited by a causal link.

Charlotte Litigation Member Larry Gwaltney was quoted in an U.S. News & World Report article on October 11. The article, titled, “ERISA: Why the Fiduciary Rule Is Not a New Idea,” discusses the ins and outs of the DOL’s fiduciary rule, which requires financial advisors to act in the best interests of clients when providing advice about retirement accounts.
