Mindy Vervais' practice focuses on energy regulation and general commercial litigation. A significant portion of Mindy's practice involves providing regulatory, business and litigation services to regulated infrastructure service industries including electric, natural gas, water and sewer utilities; hydroelectric facilities; and telecommunication companies. In addition to handling administrative litigation before multiple state public service commissions and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), Mindy provides general business advice, compliance assistance and training, and a wide variety of related legal services.

For example, Mindy regularly provides FERC compliance assistance and training to companies and is involved in proceedings before FERC. Other experiences include representing clients in Natural Gas Act (NGA) Section 4 rate cases, assisting clients with obtaining NGA Section 7(f) Service Area Determinations, coordinating client participation through the FERC's NEPA prefiling process, and preparing and obtaining a certificate for an NGA Section 7 salt dome storage facility and associated market based rate authorization. Mindy also successfully represented a municipality before FERC to obtain approval of a hydroelectric services agreement.

Mindy's commercial litigation experience includes representing clients in state and federal courts throughout North Carolina as well as in a number of other jurisdictions in contract and employment disputes, trade secrets, commercial real estate, equipment leasing, and collection matters.

In addition to handling regulatory and complex commercial litigation matters, Mindy has made pro bono matters an important part of her litigation practice. Most of Mindy’s volunteer work focuses on managing and participating in Moore & Van Allen’s Domestic Violence Pro Bono Project, a program that assists victims of domestic violence with obtaining year-long protective orders. Mindy also volunteers with the Council for Children's Rights and has represented families in a variety of landlord tenant matters.
