A Harvard M.B.A., holder of joint degrees in law and accounting, former financial officer, and member of the American College of Mortgage Attorneys, Tom Waring brings his business and banking clients a rare depth and breadth of business and legal know-how, including external "general counsel" type experience to a financial institution and a number of companies.

Before joining Moore & Van Allen in 1999, he served as managing partner at the Charleston law firm Holmes & Thomson.  Previously, he worked in resort real estate development in South Carolina—first as a project manager and financial officer with the Sea Pines Company on Hilton Head Island and then as the vice president of finance and administration with the Kiawah Island Company in Charleston.

A native of Charleston, Mr. Waring graduated from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in 1966 and served four years as a line officer in the U.S. Navy on destroyers, including a combat tour off North Vietnam.
