Matthew (Matt) W. Witsil
Registered Patent attorney Matt Witsil has been an MVA Intellectual Property team member since 1999, focusing his practice on patent prosecution, patent litigation, opinions, corporate intellectual property transactions and technology licensing. He also advises clients on copyright and trademark issues.
Mr. Witsil brings extensive technical training and experience to his intellectual property clients. A licensed professional engineer in Virginia, he served nine years as a project engineer for a Top 100 civil engineering consulting firm primarily involved with water resources facility design.
His patent prosecution work has concentrated on the mechanical arts and business methods, including:

He also has prepared non-infringement and invalidity patent opinions for utility and design patents. His copyright advice has ranged from explaining the basic rights of the copyright owner to evaluating reverse engineering rights to interpreting the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
Further, Mr. Witsil provides substantive intellectual property support to MVA’s litigation team in matters at both the Federal District Court level and at the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, included defense of alleged patent infringement, assertion of patent infringement, defense of alleged copyright infringement and interference proceeding appellate practice.
