John Gilson has a broad base of experience in finance and corporate related areas, including senior and mezzanine finance, private equity, venture capital, and financial technology and products. He primarily represents banks, business development companies (BDCs), small business investment companies (SBICs), private equity sponsors and venture capital investors in their investment and finance transactions.  

Core areas of his practice include:

  • Leveraged and acquisition finance
  • Mezzanine, Second Lien and Unitranche capital investments
  • Healthcare finance
  • Syndicated and asset-based lending
  • Structured credit products  
  • Financial technology products and services

Mr. Gilson has extensive experience regarding SBIC transactional regulations and has authored articles and lectured on the topic.  He also represents financial technology (FinTech) companies in connection with their lending origination services, consumer products, tech platforms, merchant services and peer-to-peer lending arrangements.  Prior to joining Moore & Van Allen, Mr. Gilson practiced at Paul Hastings LLP in New York City.
