Adam Smith
Adam Smith is an associate in the Charlotte office practicing in the areas of commercial litigation, financial services and insolvency litigation and government, internal investigations and criminal defense.
Mr. Smith has experience in a wide range of commercial litigation and financial services matters, including complex commercial disputes, commercial contract disputes, Sarbanes-Oxley and securities issues, bankruptcy related matters on behalf of creditors as well as insolvency issues and allegations of unfair trade practices. Mr. Smith is an experienced litigator who has practiced in state and federal courts in Virginia, New York, and Washington, D.C. including as lead counsel in both bench and jury trials.
In his white collar criminal defense and government investigations practice, Mr. Smith has represented clients in matters involving the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, and the Department of Justice. He has conducted corporate internal investigations, including matters involving allegations of securities violations and allegations of violations of federal and laws and regulations including the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and import/export laws.
Active in pro bono work, Mr. Smith has represented tenants in Section 8 housing actions and landlord-tenant disputes. Additionally, Mr. Smith has assisted pro bono clients with drafting estate planning documents.
Before joining Moore & Van Allen, Mr. Smith practiced with a large law firm in Washington, D.C. Additionally, Mr. Smith served as a law clerk for the Honorable Raner C. Collins, U.S. District Court Judge in Tucson, Arizona.
