Aaron C. Lang

Representative Matters

Aaron Lang’s practice focuses on litigation and investigations for banks, investment firms and corporate clients.  He has experience with securities, M&A, corporate governance, AML and other complex commercial matters.  He also advises banks in connection with regulatory compliance issues.

Prior to joining Moore & Van Allen, Aaron worked at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in New York in the Financial Institutions Disputes Group.

Representative Matters

  • Won motion to dismiss and Second Circuit appeal in Madoff-related securities fraud and ERISA case against hedge fund.
  • Won trial for pension trust in fraudulent transfer action in federal court.
  • Represented numerous multinational banks in regulatory and internal investigations relating to AML, tax transparency and rate-setting matters.
  • Spent four months on secondment in HSBC’s Regulatory Investigations group and four months on secondment in the Regulatory Management group within RBC's Wealth Management business.
  • Litigated numerous shareholder class actions in Delaware, North Carolina, and elsewhere.  Recently prompted voluntary dismissals of state and federal securities fraud cases through motions to dismiss.
  • Assessed bank’s AML program in light of undetected Ponzi schemes and designed centralized investigative function for handling significant regulatory matters.
  • Conducted global internal investigation for major bank to assess AML and tax issues in connection with the Panama Papers.
  • Defended Deutsche Bank in tax shelter lawsuits and arbitration.
  • Won motion to compel arbitration in federal court for private equity firm.
  • Represented financial institutions in threatened AML litigation, M&A litigation, securities litigation, and other commercial disputes.
