Moore & Van Allen PLLC (MVA) is pleased to announce that the firm is the recipient of Bank of America’s 2020 Pro Bono Award, which was presented during a virtual ceremony on October 22.

Financial Regulatory Advice and Response member Edward P. O’Keefe, who serve as chair of MVA’s Public Service Committee, accepted the award on behalf of the firm.

“We are humbled by Bank of America’s recognition of our lawyer’s and staff’s heartfelt volunteer efforts,” said firm chairman Thomas L. Mitchell. “The collaborative work that we undertake with Bank of America to assist communities in need with better access to legal services truly impacts our communities.”

In addition to recognizing the work that the firm performs to support immigrants and victims of human trafficking, Bank of America also highlighted the firm’s commitment to reducing racial inequality and injustice. Bank of America and MVA collaborate in their work for the Charlotte Pro Bono Triage, a partnership between corporate legal departments and law firms, including McGuireWoods, created to support Legal Aid of North Carolina-Charlotte and the Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy. The work of the Charlotte Triage raises awareness of the unmet legal needs in the community and drives intentional pro bono volunteerism in those areas. Bank of America also recognized McGuireWoods with its annual Diversity Award.

Each year, the bank’s internal lawyers nominate outside counsel for the award, considering the breadth and impact of each firm’s pro bono activities.  The award is given to a law firm that has exhibited outstanding commitment to pro bono work, particularly in partnership with Bank of America.
