Moore & Van Allen PLLC is pleased to announce that Litigation Member George Hanna received the North Carolina State Bar John B. McMillan Distinguished Service Award. Hanna was presented with the award at the Mecklenburg County Bar’s annual Law Day Luncheon on May 3 at the Hilton Charlotte Center City.

The John B. McMillan Distinguished Service Award program honors current and retired members of the North Carolina State Bar throughout the state who have demonstrated exemplary service to the legal profession.

Hanna is a veteran litigator, arbitrator and mediator with extensive experience in business and construction disputes. He was a founding member and chair of the firm’s Public Service Committee, and a founder and first chair of the firm’s Diversity Committee. Hanna is a past president of the Mecklenburg County Bar (MCB) and Mecklenburg Bar Foundation, and a former chair of Legal Services of Southern Piedmont (now Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy) and the Children’s Law Center (now Council for Children's Rights). He previously served on the North Carolina Justice Center Board, was a founder and a first co-chair of the MCB’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee, and served on the MCB’s Volunteer Lawyers Committee for 10 years. He also served on the North Carolina Bar Association’s (NCBA) Board of Governors and for nearly a decade was a member the NCBA’s Pro Bono Planning Committee. Hanna participated with the Community Building Initiative and has been actively involved in the Charlotte YMCA for more than 40 years. He was a longtime member of the NC Chief Justice’s Equal Access to Justice Commission and remains a special advisor to the Commission.
