Taylor Discusses FTC Ruling

Charlotte Commercial & Technology and Privacy & Data Security Senior Counsel Todd Taylor was quoted in Law360 on April 8, in the article “Landmark FTC Win Fuels Uncertainty For Data Breach Targets.”  The article discusses a federal court decision that the FTC can bring lawsuits against companies over allegedly lax data security practices.

“’The case puts a ruling on the books by a federal judge that in fact, the FTC Act does grant the FTC the power to bring enforcement actions against companies that have just poor security practices, regardless of whether or not they made any representations about security in their policies,’” Taylor stated.
