Moore & Van Allen Financial Regulatory Advice & Response attorneys Kate Wellman and John Stoker recently presented a lunchtime webinar, “The Shifting Tides of Bank Regulation and Supervision,” in partnership with the North Carolina Bar Association.

During the program, Wellman and Stoker discussed significant recent and emerging developments in banking law and regulation, including ongoing efforts to modernize the BSA/AML framework, community bank relief measures, capital and prudential reforms, and evolving supervisory standards that increasingly prioritize material financial risk over process‑driven compliance. The session also addressed key developments in state interest rate laws and preemption, as well as increased competition on banks from emerging charter models and nonbank and quasi-bank entities.

The webinar reflects ongoing work by MVA’s Financial Regulatory Advice & Response team advising financial institutions on regulatory compliance, investigations, and supervisory matters.
