Abbey Hupp represents national, regional, and local clients in complex commercial litigation in state and federal courts and in arbitration. She has experience across all phases of litigation, including document discovery, depositions, dispositive motions, trial, and appeals, and has played a key role both bench and jury trials.

Overview

Abbey has experience with False Claims Act litigation, high-stakes insurance coverage disputes and contract disputes. In addition to representing clients in court, Abbey advises clients on compliance matters, internal investigations, and insurance issues arising in transactions and government investigations.

Abbey maintains an active pro bono practice and has obtained favorable outcomes in the Landlord & Tenant Branch of the District of Columbia Superior Court for clients facing housing insecurity.

Before joining Moore & Van Allen, Abbey practiced in Washington, D.C. She earned her J.D. from Harvard Law School. During law school, Abbey served as a judicial intern in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of North Carolina, worked as a Technical Editor for the Harvard Journal of Law & Gender, and gained practical experience as a clinical student with the Harvard Law School Center for Health Law and Policy Innovation.

Representative Experience

Matters handled prior to joining the firm. 

  • Arbitration hearing team member in hearing involving a $240 million loss portfolio transfer reinsurance agreement. The team obtained an award terminating the agreement due to the cedent’s fraudulent misrepresentations.
  • Part of a team that obtained dismissal of False Claims Act litigation against health and hospital system related to allegations that defendants had fraudulently billed Medicare by improperly classifying outpatient services as inpatient admissions.
  • Part of a team that defeated a high-stakes claim against an agricultural co-op in the trial and appellate courts of California.
