Michael is senior counsel in the Charlotte office of Moore & Van Allen. He practices in the Intellectual Property and Commercial & Technology Transactions practice groups, as well as the Privacy & Data Security group.
Michael also has broad experience drafting and negotiating a range of commercial agreements, including IP licenses, service and purchase agreements, outsourcing contracts, equipment leases and other commercial agreements. He also partners with clients on developing and implementing cross-functional strategic initiatives and process improvements. He regularly counsels clients on all legal matters pertaining to their business, including regulatory compliance, contractual disputes, M&A activity, finance, privacy, IP, risk management and operations. Michael takes a solutions-based approach and works to develop legal, business and risk mitigation strategies that meet his client’s particular needs.
Prior to joining the firm, Michael worked with a leading financial institution, as well as multi-national manufacturers and retailers drafting and negotiating technology related agreements including IT sourcing, cloud hosting, data processing and data security agreements. He has also developed data security and privacy compliance processes, including Privacy Shield and GDPR compliance programs.
Michael began his career as a litigator and has significant experience representing clients in real estate, environmental, land use and leasing disputes, as well as employment discrimination, civil rights and related tort claims. Prior to law school, Michael was a Los Angeles Police officer and worked patrol and detectives in Hollywood and Southeast divisions.
