Rachel LaBruyere Named Safe Alliance 2026 Individual Pro Bono Attorney of the Year
We are proud to share that Rachel LaBruyere has been selected as the Safe Alliance 2026 Individual Pro Bono Attorney of the Year, an honor that recognizes her extraordinary commitment to pro bono service and advocacy for survivors of domestic violence.
Rachel’s work with Safe Alliance’s Legal Representation Project has made a meaningful and lasting impact on individuals and families in our community. She currently leads Moore & Van Allen’s Domestic Violence Pro Bono Project, partnering closely with Safe Alliance to ensure survivors receive critical legal protection and compassionate advocacy during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
Since the start of her legal career, Rachel has maintained a robust pro bono practice—averaging 10–20 pro bono hours per month and handling multiple cases each year. Her work spans domestic violence protective orders, driver’s license reinstatements, expungements, immigration and asylum matters, and civil rights claims. In addition to her own advocacy, Rachel mentors and guides other attorneys, helping build a strong and sustainable culture of pro bono service.
Rachel’s dedication to service is deeply rooted in her background. Before becoming a lawyer, she spent more than seven years working in nonprofit and advocacy organizations focused on immigrant rights, LGBTQ issues, and social justice initiatives. That commitment continues today through her legal practice and leadership within the Charlotte legal community.
Reflecting on her work with survivors, Rachel shared: “Being able to hold space for someone and help them feel safer as they move through the world is not something I take lightly. It is both grounding and incredibly rewarding.”
The award will be formally presented at the 2026 Mecklenburg Bar Association and 26th JD Bar Annual Meeting on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Central Piedmont Community College.
