Moore & Van Allen Expands Derivatives Practice, Unveils New Derivatives & Trading Team
Moore & Van Allen announced today that its Swaps & Derivatives practice has been renamed the Derivatives & Trading practice, recognizing the continued expansion of the team’s work across commodities, digital assets, foreign exchange, prediction markets, and securities. The firm is also pleased to announce that Stuart Armstrong will serve as co-head of the practice alongside Barrett Morris.
The new name underscores the team’s broad capabilities and experience in capital markets and traded products, as well as the changing market landscape. The team’s work has grown beyond traditional swaps and derivatives markets to include securities, digital assets, prediction markets, physical commodities, renewable energy attributes, and related financing structures along with the regulatory and compliance work that accompanies trading businesses in each of these markets.

Stuart brings significant experience in traded products and structured finance. He also brings insights from his experience serving in the Division of Market Oversight at the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), where he worked on drafting and implementing Dodd-Frank regulations. For more than a decade, he has advised clients on derivatives, commodities and securities trading and financing, business expansions, new product offerings, and significant regulatory and market structure developments.
The Derivatives & Trading practice advises swap dealers, security-based swap dealers, commodities trading firms, FX dealers, broker dealers, prime brokerages, liquidity providers, exchanges, clearing houses, futures commission merchants, funds, financial institutions, and corporate end-users. The practice is supported by and works closely with lawyers across disciplines in Moore & Van Allen's financial services and litigation groups.
