The Charlotte Triage Pro Bono Partnership has compiled a number of on-demand trainings, which can be accessed below, designed to support our volunteers’ ability to serve trafficking survivors. A primary tenet of effective legal representation of human trafficking survivors is being a trauma-informed service provider. As such, all our volunteers are reminded to engage in trauma training annually. Note that CLE credit is available for some of our virtual offerings – instructions on how to apply for CLE credit are provided in the program instructions.

Triage tracks volunteer completion of our trauma trainings to ensure best practices for protection and support of our survivors clients.

Human Trafficking 101 & Survivor Legal Needs - Continuing Legal Education

This course is for lawyers and legal professionals who are new to Triage and the Moore & Van Allen Human Trafficking Pro Bono Project and have not yet received basic training on human trafficking and the legal needs of survivors. The different forms of human trafficking and relevant federal and state law will be defined. The legal needs of survivors are vast and various, requiring education about the realities of this crime, the victim experience, and paths to legal remedy.

Attendees will learn about trauma-informed representation in the various areas of service including expunction, victim-witness advocacy, and other civil needs including family law assistance, name changes and credit restoration. The challenges and myths around supporting this population will be discussed in an effort to increase the quantity and quality of this type of pro bono representation.

New Triage/Project volunteers are strongly encouraged to attend.

Understanding Complex Trauma: Supporting Victims of Human Trafficking

Victims of human trafficking experience trauma. Triage volunteers working with this population must be trained on trauma- informed care to: do no harm; provide meaningful support; and engage in self-care. Clinicians and other professionals will deliver insights on the psychological experience of survivors and best practices for those who interact with them. This training would also benefit anyone seeking a better understanding of complex trauma stemming from exploitation.
