Moore & Van Allen PLLC (MVA) is pleased to announce that Financial Services Member Kaitlin D. Powers has been selected for the Charlotte Business Journal’s 2023 class of 40 Under 40 honorees. All honorees will be formally recognized at an awards event on May 17 and featured in a CBJ special report on May 19.

The CBJ’s highly competitive 40 Under 40 awards program, now in its 30th year, spotlights 40 individuals under the age of 40 who are making a difference in the region. This year, 280 candidates were put forth for consideration. Honorees were selected based on noteworthy leadership, professional accomplishments, and contributions to greater Charlotte.

“Kaitlin has elevated the bar both within our practice group and across the firm,” said Co-head of the firm’s Financial Services group Wayne McKinzie. “She demonstrates excellence in her law practice, serves clients with empathy and vision, and is a devoted changemaker in Charlotte. We are so pleased to see her efforts being recognized.”

In her practice, Powers represents financial institutions (including commercial banks and Farm Credit System banks and associations), insurance companies and other institutional investors in various senior and mezzanine financing transactions and investments. She also advises clients on structuring and documenting secured and unsecured credit facilities and single-lender and syndicated lending transactions across a wide array of industries.

In addition to her demanding practice, Powers spends considerable time helping under-resourced entrepreneurs execute on their business dreams through her work to help launch and now oversee the newly incorporated nonprofit Charlotte Legal Initiative to Mobilize Businesses (CLIMB). Since CLIMB was launched in 2021, Powers and her colleagues have provided more than 60 clients across the region with pro bono transactional legal services. Furthermore, Powers serves as board chair of The Arts Empowerment Project, participates in two school reading programs, and volunteers as a Wayfinders mentor.
