Moore & Van Allen PLLC (MVA) is pleased to announce that Sarah Dohoney Byrne, senior counsel in the firm’s Charlotte office and leader of MVA’s Human Trafficking Prevention & Compliance practice, has been named to The American Lawyer magazine’s 2022 list of South Trailblazers.

The Trailblazer series is a special supplement that spotlights attorneys based in the southern United States who are “truly agents of change,” having made significant impact on the practice, policy and technological advancements in their practice areas. Byrne will be featured, along with other honorees, in the October/November 2022 issue of The American Lawyer.

“We congratulate Sarah on this prestigious recognition from The American Lawyer’s Trailblazers for her outstanding work and leadership in human trafficking survivor support and prevention,” said Thomas L. Mitchell, MVA’s managing partner and chair of the firm’s Management Committee.

The South Trailblazers selection committee noted that it was especially intrigued by Byrne’s “unique perspective at the intersection of banking and human trafficking” and her founding of MVA’s Human Trafficking Pro Bono Project.

MVA is recognized as a leading law firm offering comprehensive legal and financial inclusion support to survivors of human trafficking. Common areas of service include expunction of criminal records, victim-witness advocacy, family law consultations, name changes, and assistance with credit repair and access to safe banking. A member of MVA’s Financial Regulatory Advice & Response practice, Byrne also advises organizations on human trafficking prevention and provides clients with institutional training on anti-trafficking and survivor support programs. Together with a multidisciplinary team of lawyers at the firm, she offers advice on ESG (environmental, social and governance) goals and compliance with related human rights law and regulation.
