Moore & Van Allen Expands Securities & Capital Markets Group with Addition of Charles W. Kemp

Moore & Van Allen PLLC (MVA) is pleased to announce that longtime securities lawyer Charles W. Kemp has joined the firm’s Securities & Capital Markets Group. Kemp most recently served as lead securities counsel for CarMax, Inc., and formerly was chair of the Corporate Governance and Securities Department at Williams Mullen in Richmond, Virginia.

Mitchell. “Charles’s deep experience in securities law and board governance will be a great asset to our corporate clients.”

At Moore & Van Allen, Kemp’s practice will focus on federal laws and related rules regarding securities and capital markets transactions, corporate governance, shareholder relations, and strategic transactions. As associate general counsel and assistant corporate secretary for CarMax, Kemp was responsible for all aspects of federal securities laws applicable to financial reporting, annual meetings, securities offerings and other public company disclosures and requirements, including NYSE listing requirements. Kemp also led the team responsible for advising CarMax on corporate governance, corporate finance, strategic investment, and commercial contract matters.

Kemp received his J.D., cum laude, from Washington and Lee University School of Law and his Bachelor of Science in accounting from the University of Richmond. Kemp also is a Certified Corporate Governance Professional (CCGP) by the Society of Corporate Governance.
