Moore & Van Allen PLLC (MVA) is pleased to announce that the firm was named one of North Carolina Lawyers Weekly’s inaugural Empowering Women award winners. Additionally, MVA Senior IT Manager Clinton “Clint” M. Gandy was selected as one of the publication’s 2023 Unsung Legal Heroes honorees. Both recognitions published within the December issue of North Carolina Lawyers Weekly.

The Empowering Women awards program recognizes law firms that have shown a strong commitment to supporting and elevating women attorneys in North Carolina. Honorees have demonstrated a track record of and commitment to recruiting, hiring, and promoting women in their organization; female mentoring; work to create systemic change in society; and contributions to advancing women through outside philanthropic or community endeavors.

Through the efforts and initiatives of the firm’s longstanding Women of Moore & Van Allen (WoMVA) Business Resource Group, MVA brings together female professionals for mentoring, networking, and career development opportunities that promote the interests and progress of women lawyers and staff at the firm. WoMVA is led by Financial Services Member Meredith French Reedy and Head of Environmental Mary Katherine H. Stukes.

"WoMVA is an important firm initiative for the formal, educational offerings but also for the ways it facilitates bonds among attorneys," Reedy said. “We are delighted that the efforts of WoMVA and key stakeholders across the firm are being recognized with this meaningful award, and proud of this work to truly empower women in law," Stukes said.

North Carolina Lawyers Weekly’s Unsung Legal Hero awards program honors law firm employees who consistently go above and beyond the call of duty, often behind the scenes. The award is reserved for the most talented and dedicated legal support professionals from a range of categories, including accounting, administrative, IT, marketing, paralegals, and more.

Unsung Legal Hero honoree Gandy is a core member of MVA’s operations team. As the senior IT manager for operations and compliance, he is responsible for ensuring business continuity and compliance for the firm’s 400+ attorneys and professionals. From overseeing the firm’s conference room technologies and phone systems to logistics and managing equipment vendors and leases, he touches nearly every aspect of operations.

“Congratulations to Clint for this well-deserved recognition. Over the course of his 24-year tenure with MVA, Clint has had a tremendous impact within the firm,” said Director of Information Systems William L. Ferguson. “Clint exhaustively explores all the options to find the best path forward. He is reliable, and strategic, and serves as a valued mentor to his team of six, with a work ethic and ingenuity that is contagious.”
