Moore & Van Allen PLLC (MVA) is pleased to announce the arrival of Matthew “Matt” S. Morgan, who has joined the firm as counsel in the firm’s Financial Services and Special Situations groups. Morgan is a seasoned lawyer, able to draw upon his experience with both international finance and restructuring transactions at law firms and at both buy-side and sell-side financial institutions in London.

For several years Morgan was the in-house desk lawyer for Citigroup’s European Credit Desks, working primarily with the distressed trading book. More recently, he was in a business role with the special situations group at NatWest Markets, where he not only managed each restructuring situation for the desk but also took a lead role for the structuring and execution of the direct lending transactions originated by this business.

Morgan focuses his practice on providing sophisticated advice and solutions to investment funds, financial sponsors, and financial institutions with transactions across the credit spectrum. He also advises on loan workouts and restructurings, and the financing opportunities associated with such situations, as well as the secondary loan trading of distressed credit exposures and the creation of bespoke trading documentation. Morgan’s advisory experience makes him an instrumental member of MVA’s Special Situations group which is focused on representing financial stakeholders as they consider and pursue possible business opportunities and navigate the complexities of investments in stressed or distressed situations.

Morgan earned his J.D. from Southern Methodist University and his Master of Laws from the University of London.  He is a member of the State Bars of New York, Texas, Virginia and South Carolina.
