Bret Buckler is an associate in the Moore & Van Allen Intellectual Property group. He focuses his IP practice on technology and commercial transaction matters, patent investigations, and patent preparation/prosecution.

Overview

Bret’s practice includes drafting and reviewing patent and trademark licenses, software as a service agreements, and other general service agreements. Additionally, he counsels on intellectual property and technology issues arising in mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, and other corporate transactions. Bret also prepares, prosecutes, and provides strategic advice for the management of the prosecution of numerous patent applications, with a particular focus on artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) technologies.

Aside from practicing law, Bret sits on the advisory board of NC TECH, a not-for-profit, membership-driven association which serves as a primary voice of the technology industry in North Carolina. Bret graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Law, where he served as the pro bono coordinator for the Carolina Intellectual Property Law Association and was a founding board member of the Entrepreneurial Law Association.
